Calydonian Boar

A monstrous boar sent by Artemis to punish Calydon. The beast lays waste to fields and forests, attacking the folk, resulting to shortage of food.

Cerberus

The monstrous three-headed hound of the underworld, guards the gates of Hades to keep the dead from escaping and the living from entering. With snakes writhing around his neck and a serpent’s tail, his fearsome visage deters all but the bravest souls.

Charybdis

A fearsome sea-entity dwelling opposite Scylla in the narrow Strait of Messina. As a monstrous whirlpool that three times a day she gulps down vast amounts of seawater and then belch it back out, creating a deadly maelstrom that can swallow entire ships and drown unwary sailors.

Chimera

A monstrous, fire-breathing hybrid, with the head and body of a lion, a goat’s head rising from its back, and a serpent for a tail. It is renowned for its savage strength and deadly flames, terrorizing the region of Lycia.

Echidna

The Mother of Monsters, a fearsome half-woman, half-serpent, dwells in a cave, in the remote region of Arima. Fierce and cunning, she guards her lair jealously, emerging only to rear her monstrous offspring.

Empusa

A shape-shifting demon who roams roads at night, often taking the form of a beautiful woman to seduce and then devour lone travelers. She is having one brass leg and one donkey’s leg, along with flaming hair and a gaunt, corpse-like visage. She embodies the perilous lure of the night and the boundary between the living and the dead.

Gorgons

The Three sisters whose hair are writhing snakes and their powers are even threat to the gods. Stheno the Mighty, Euryale the Far-Springer and Medusa the Queen. Stheno and Euryale are immortals, but mortal Medusa was cursed with a cruel fate.

Graeae

The three ancient sisters, Deino, Enyo, and Pemphredo. They share a single eye and a single tooth, passing them hand-to-hand. Guarding the entrance to the Gorgons, they possess knowledge of their whereabouts. They can see the future and the mortals’ fate.

Harpies

Winged fierce spirits with the bodies of birds and the faces of women, Harpies are agents of divine punishment who swoop down to snatch away people and things. They torment wrongdoers and convey the souls of the wicked to the Erinyes for vengeance.

Lamia

A child-snatching daemon, who prowls nocturnally, seducing and then preying upon young men and infants.

Lernaean Hydra

A fearsome, serpentine water-monster that haunts the swamp of Lake Lerna. It possesses multiple heads, its blood is highly venomous, and its breath can kill at a distance.

Mares of Diomedes

A quartet of savage, flesh‐eating horses owned by King Diomedes of Thrace. Trained on human flesh, they are wild beyond control and terrorize all who approach.

Minotaur

A mighty creature with the body of a man and the head of a bull, the Minotaur dwells at the center of King Minos’s Labyrinth. Born from a cursed union, it subsists on human sacrifices

Nemea Lion

A gigantic, golden-maned lion that terrorizes the region of Nemea. Its hide is impervious to mortal weapons and its claws can rend stone.

Ophiotaurus

A rare hybrid creature with the front of a bull and the tail of a serpent, dwells near rivers. Whoever burns its entrails will gain the power to overthrow the gods.

Scylla

A dreadful sea-monster who dwells on a rocky cliff opposite Charybdis in the Strait of Messina. With ravenous dog-headed necks, she snatches and devours sailors from passing ships, making her passage as perilous as her whirlpool counterpart.

Sirens

Enchanting sea-nymphs, half-women, half-birds, whose irresistible, melodious song, lures sailors to shipwreck upon rocky shores. Living on isolated islands, they symbolize both the peril of temptation and the dangers of the unknown sea.

Sphinx

A fearsome hybrid creature, with the head of a woman, the body of a lion, and the wings of a great bird. Stationed atop a rocky hill outside Thebes, she challenges travelers with a riddle, devouring any who fails to answer.

Stymphalian Birds

A flock of aggressive, man-eating birds with metallic feathers and sharp beaks, sent by Ares to plague the marshes of Stymphalia. Their feathers can be launched like lethal projectiles.
